Second Day of Editing

Yo yo yo! For the second day of editing, we focused primarily on the audio portion of this film. Now,

although these past two posts have specific editors, it’s been mostly a group effort in our goals.

Kayla did a lot of the work for editing the non-diegetic sound placed over the actual film. Although

she did the majority of it on her computer at home, all of the other group members were present

over a group FaceTime call.

So, we had an idea for our film. One of the main characters, Jason Smith (played by yours truly),

is going to be the narrator of the film. He’s going to be speaking from his own experience, describing

the scene from his point of view. We had to incorporate a voice-over which we had to plug into the

program.

How we did it

Originally, we were going to use iMovie because it was all that we had, but we made a swift

transition to DaVinci Resolve after seeing the collaboration feature. iMovie has an individual-only

feature, which means you can’t share the work. DaVinci on the other hand has a mode where

we can share it to a cloud and have multiple people working on it at one time. This helps reduce the

time loss by a HUGE margin, which we'll get into later. Since we noticed this feature, we IMMEDIATELY left. This kind of ruined all of our efforts from the previous post… but it’s a much better decision.

NEXT, we have the actual audio that we're going to have to edit into the recording. We were forced to transition to the second software, which when coupled with the actual work, took just under two hours. The worst part about all of this was definitely the time we have to spend. We're going to have to have more work sessions to try and increase the fluidity of the project, making it sound good. For more reference on what is said, I would recommend reading our script to follow along.

Here's a selfie that Kayla took when she was doing the initial editing. These two pictures show the editing process; the former is when she is downloading the audio, fixing the lengths, layering, etc. Comparatively,  the second picture shows both the font and audio synching process over one of the opening shots. Kayla had to use a bunch of different clips that we took and edit them to make sure it's not a jumbled mess. Even though we still have about a minute left to go, we're making good progress.
