Editing Day 1

EDITING - Day 1

Today was our first day of editing where we had to piece together all of the scenes we took the previous week and make it look (somewhat) like a movie. It did NOT go like we thought it would. Although we knew beforehand that this would be the hardest process we underestimated the difficulty... like a lot. Tyler took the initiative for this work as this was just putting the videos we already took in. There wasn't much work that needed to be done, other than just developing transitions and making the recording look less choppy. We started off using iMovie to develop everything since that's the editing software that his apple computer came with. Tyler thought he had experience editing since we both worked on our sound story together but ... it was a lot more difficult than solely audio. In fact, it got so bad we decided to divide our editing days into one purely visual than the next purely audio. None of us are pros - by any means - but we had to try our best, which albeit wasn't very good was later resolved. There were many scenes that we didn't like after the fact that we're going to have to reshoot, but they're quick fixes that shouldn't be too tedious.

The picture above shows the start of the character introductions. Each character will have their own short backstory told in the form of a mugshot and evidence. The character above is Felicity (Kayla), which we'll again have to change since it's too close to the face for a proper mugshot. This isn't the final copy as we have many ideas on how to change this, such as having multiple pictures (a close-up, medium shot, shot from the side, etc).

The picture above here shows the process of what was occurring during the actual editing process. It was mostly Tyler testing out different elements that iMovie had, trying to get the gist of everything. It took a while, as we had to work both in class and at home and even then it's still quite difficult to master.

In the end, we had to resort to using FaceTime a LOT haha. It's fine though because we managed to get work done. The first day of editing was successful, hopefully the second one will be even better.
