An Amateur's Attempt at Film

Shot 1: Mid Shot

Purpose: So I chose to do a mid-shot in this particular situation because it would be the best angle to capture the movement and gestures of the subject. This was meant to show the background - which is a set of double doors - and the subject, which is an individual who appears to be in a rush. Their head rapidly moves left to right, as does their waist, to convey a sense of charge and intensity. All of these components together would only be possible with a mid-shot since any others would include/exclude important details. I think this turned out pretty successful, with the only flaw I notice is a shaky camera at the start.

Shot 2: High Angle

Purpose: This is a high-angle shot detailing the subject and separating them from the rest of the crowd.
This was meant to convey information about who the person of interest was meant to be, rather than to elicit emotion or make the subject seem vulnerable. I feel like if I isolated the subject with this angle, then it would provoke this feeling, but I paired them with others to emphasize them instead. I believe I did an alright job at this since the angle wasn't too low nor high. If it was, it would've either been awkward, turned into another angle entirely, or give the incorrect meaning.

Shot 3: Low-Angle

Purpose: There are meant to be two meanings used for this one-shot. The first is to show the subject as large and to give off a confident, maybe arrogant feeling. The other meaning would be to act as a transition. It appears as if the subject is distracted, in their own world until something catches their attention. This distracts them and they leave the frame, allowing for a change of scenery and mood. I like this clip and am happy with it, yet am doubting whether it could be called a true low-angle shot.

Shot 4: Wide Shot / Long Shot / Full Shot

Purpose: This is an interesting one, as it not only shows the entire subject but their surrounding environment as well. This is meant to add tension to the scene as it seems the character is contemplating something which requires isolation and silence. They also happen to be on a high surface, swinging their legs which give off a contradictory feeling, symbolizing the internal issue of hypocrisy. I am very pleased with this shot because I think it looks wonderful. It captures exactly what I wanted in a smooth way.

Shot 5: POV into a Mid Shot

Purpose: Originally, it begins as a point-of-view shot, showing the subject sitting down in a first-person view. This shows their perspective and starts to build the scene. It allows the watcher to know that the subject is in some form of school, with the transition bell ringing. After this, it follows the subject to a mid-shot where it shows them walking to their next destination, showing only their shoulder up. I'm really happy with the POV section of this, but am unsure about the mid-shot section.

Comments

  1. Low angle shot was FLAWLESS. The pose really completed the look, plus the look to the side was a 10/10. However, that wide shot seemed scary... I'm glad you didn't fall.

  3. I really was intrigued by your wide shot! It was especially exciting and was the perfect shot for the idea you were trying to get across to the viewer! Great job!
